Azhiyatha Kolangal2 Review: Balu Mahendra's debut directorial film in Tamil, Azhiyatha Kolangal, was a trendsetter when it was released four decades ago. As a tribute to the veteran filmmaker, director MR Bharathi made Azhiyatha Kolangal 2, the shooting of which was completed several years ago. The movie, the story of which unfolds between three characters, Gowri Shankar, Mohana and Sita, have been played by Prakash Raj, Archana and Revathy respectively.
Gowri, a celebrated writer, who cherishes the moments he had with Mohana, her college friend, sets out to meet her after almost 25 years. The delighted duo happily engages in a long conversation after which an unexpected incident turns their life topsy-turvy. What happens further is supposed to be a series of intriguing events, but ends up with an unappealing sequence which is artificially staged, thus testing the viewers' patience. The only saving grace of the film is the performance of the lead characters. A lion's share of the film is shot indoors - the lack of novelty in visuals coupled with overdramatic dialogues and scenes spoil the plot.
